    Twib X axis screws - 2 stepper drives ?

    Re TRON: Router table.
I will drive my main 'x' axis with twin screws. they will be linked at one end of the shafts by belt and pulley. Each screw will have it's own stepper motor. Do I need to have a seperate stepper driver for each of these screws or can one driver suffice. I plan to use (max)4.2 amp stepper drivers together with 2 to 3nm stepper motors. Probably plan on using Mach3

    Your help would be appreciated.

    Many thanks

Use two drives. And you don't need the belt, mach3 will sync them with it's slaving function. Actually, if you use a belt, the two motors may actually be fighting each other at times.

    Twin x Drives

Have done some tests with free running steppers synched together in Mach 3.
Over 100 moves of different dimensions they always ended up in the same position. This might be different if they were under full load, but I hope not as my twin axis build is getting close to show time. Anyway it convinced me enough to continue with twin stepper drives.
