Stepper driver - DIY

Anyone know of a simple, cheap and standards meeting DIY project with diagrams etc. for at stepper driver with RS232 interface?

If you're using an RS232 interface....are you also rolling your own software...most handles the parallel port...which is different....??

Just something to think about...unless you have a few electronic test instruments (oscilloscope, voltmeter, etc.) you'll most likely spend alot of time being frustrated if you attempt to build from a schematic...I don't know your level of expertise, but it might be simpler to buy some Geckos ($300) or one of the other stepper driver boards advertised on the site...just depends on the experience that you want to live for the next couple of months.

What is your objective? Learn about steppers? Drive a multiaxis machine? etc. What you level of electronics knowledge.

I have no experience in building stepper motor drivers, but am no stranger to building electronic PCB's etc. Problem is, that shipping to DK is very high, and I can't seem to find any distributor in DK that can deliver a parallel port interfaced 3 motor driver at a reasonable price.
