Stepperworld SP-3/HT wiring question(easy one)

Hi, I've been lurking on here forever and have finally ordered a setup from stepperworld and have all the parts cut for the machine just waiting to be assembled. My (stupid) question is how exactly am I supposed to hook up the motor wires to the board (I'm using the resistors that came with the kit) the schematic makes sense to me but I just want to make sure I do it right, I don't want to fry the board. It looks to me like you would have to solder the black and white wires to the others but a friend of mine says no that all I have to do is connect the black and white to the resistor and then the the board (he says the black and white are already connected inside the motor and the "loop' symbol is actually the motor) PLEASE HELP, I know this is a dumb question and I'm pretty embarrassed as it is! FILE IS ATTACHED!

Thanks
Scott

The red stripe wire somehow got messed up in the transmission but it looks exactly like the green side in reality.

Your friend is correct. Twist the black and white together and then attach to the resistor, and then the other end of the resistor to the board.

The diagram you have is demonstrating the connections inside the stepper motor. If you take the time to sit down with your motor and use a multimeter to experiment with the current connecting paths (noting their resistances) between the seperate wires then that diagram will make a little more sense.

Thank you very much Chagrin! Shouldn't be long now, just got the last part of my machine in today (a Z-axis assembly, got it off of ebay....looks pretty neat though) I think I'm going to buy a book on basic electronics, it's something I've always wanted to learn anyway.

Thanks again!

I've got almost the same board, but with the high output transistors the FET3 and I didn't even think of connecting up my motors that way.... Plus another mistake I believe I made which I realized last night was that I had the Current limting Resistor on the XY + to the board, not on the output to the motor... So that could have been why the motors stalled so easily.
So inadvertantly.... thanks Flyelectric and Chagrin....
I'll have to post pictures of my setup on the HF mill.

Glad my question helped you out! I will post a pic here also just as soon as I get it screwed together and painted! Here's a link to that z-axis assembly I bought on ebay, the rest of my machine is all MDF and drawer slides (the really good ones though) Hey CCM, I see you are right down the road from me in MA!

Well one side is for your power (from your power supply) and the other is for a switch (I think), I will have to take a look at mine and see which side is which and I'll get back to you.......although it should be clearly labeled as such on the schematics you have, I haven't looked at them in such a long time myself though.

I want my controller board to be used for milling and drilling PCB board,Can you sufggest any softwares to go with the controller?
