Hi, This is my first post in this fantastic forum. And I have some classical questions. 1. What kind of stepping motor is best for my setup? 2. And how do I calculate it? 3. How low/high shall I gear the motor? Purpose of my mill: It must be as accurate as my wallet allows, my dream is +/-0.03mm/300mm. I am hoping to make a high feed mill, with a maximum of 0.2mm in operation. Dream Feed is 800-1600mm/min. Materials to be worked in are aluminum, cobber and brass. Endmill size Ø0.2mm to Ø6mm HF spindle 8000-24000rpm @ 1500W Equipment info: X axis Minimum load 30kg. Maximum load 50kg. Screw pitch 10mm Screw dia. 31mm Travel 600mm Accuracy Grade C3 or C5 Connected with belt to motor, gearing possible Y axis Minimum load 21kg. Maximum load 40kg. Screw dia. 11.56mm Screw pitch 3mm Travel 200mm Accuracy Grade C2 Connected with belt to motor, gearing possible Z axis Minimum load 27kg. Maximum load 35kg. +operation Screw dia. 11.56mm Screw pitch 3mm Travel 300mm Accuracy Grade C2 Connected with belt to motor, gearing possible All linear guides is new THK LM RSR 15WV 4 blocks can carry a 50kg. Load. I have one special build NEMA 23 size stepping motor. (one of the round ones) Here is some info: MAE - HY 200 – 2240 - 460 A8 4 phase 4.6 A/phase – 0.480 ohm I don’t know holding torque/bipolar but it is properly a more then 162N/cm (230oz/in) I hope that someone will take the time to help me – thanks.
