I just got 2 ups503-1 controllers from ebay but got no documentation with them. Can anyone tell me how to wire these to accept step/dir signals from the parallel port? These are made by Mycom, but thier site says they are discontinued. I did find somewhere that said they could be used with step/dir signals, but not how to hook them up. Any help appreciated. |

| The ups 503-1 controller has been superseded by the IMS500 series 5 Phase Half/Full Step Driver. Go here http://www.mycom.com.sg/products.asp?opt=2 and click on the PDF link under the controller details. It has a switch on the controller to change from 2 pulse to 1 pulse which you will need for the step/direction signals (you will need 1 pulse for your computer setup). This should get you out of (or into) trouble. Rich.

| Thanks Rich I assume that I could hook up from the step/dir control right from the parallel port and just wire in the 5 volts as in the diagram and make sure the switch is in the 1 position. Any idea which is step and which is direction on the card hookup? Harry |

| Yes. But a breakout board is much better because it is so much easier to wire everything up. Get the C10 from CNC4PC for $25. It's cheap and does a great job and has isolated inputs. In part 8 section 4 (Signal In/Out connector) near the bottom of the page you can see the "CW and (Pulse) " and underneath it "CCW and (CW, CCW) " These would be the Pulse or Step and the Direction is CW, CCW

| Instructions with mine say to move switch four from the "B" position to the "G" position. All of mine are marked "1P" and "2P" though. Set it to "1P" if yours looks that way. Your +CCW now becomes "direction", and your +CW becomes "step". -CCW and -CW become unused. Confusing as hell I know, Mycom could have documented it better. |
