I am curious if one can drive an 8 wire stepper with 2 drive channels be using each driver in half coil on the same motor? I envision connecting 1 drive to the a and b phases and another slaved driver to the c and d phases for double the current drive. |

| I think it might be possible. Neil is referring to the possibility that the two drives are not in sync with one another, if they are not, they will be fighting each other and you will have a "locked rotor". If you were to lose a step or turn the machine off and back on, you might get the drives in different states, you would then have to send a step pulse to one drive and not the other until they were in sync. Possible, probably. Worthwhile, questionable. If you have the parts, try it out. You will either find it doesn't work, it fries your drives, or it works great and you can tell everyone how to do it. Good luck Matt |
