I have a couple of steppers I picked up surplus a few years ago and I need some help putting them to use on a Joe's 4x4 Hybird look alike. The manufacturer is Shinano Kenshi Co., Ltd., Japan. The nameplate says STH 39D248, 60Hz, 100 ohms . 90 ohms, 72 RPM, 10uf, 24v. They measure 38mm square by about 36mm, shaft diameter is 5mm and they have 3 wires. I assume they are Bipolar and have 2 coils with 1 wire from each coil tied together. The resistance measures 90 ohms between 2 of the wires and what I assume to be the common wire, and 180 ohms total. Does anyone know anything about these? I sent an email to the company in Culver City, CA, but haven't gotten any response, and they are not shown on their web site. Can I use any controller that puts out 24v, and is current limited to 240 ma? Thanks for any help, Bob Hayes |

| Not sure, but the 60Hz and 72rpm sounds like AC steppers that spin at a constant 72rpm when hooked up to 110V AC. But the 24V seems odd. Doesn't sound like they'll work, but I'm not really sure.

| Like Gerry said, they sound like they are synchronous motors, with a capacitor they run at a constant RPM off of line AC. Not the same as a bipolar incremental stepper motor, but I'm not sure....do a search for synchronous motors, maybe you can find out more.
