FAQ on driver ICs?

Folks,

Has anyone put together a FAQ on selecting H-bridge ICs for the final stage of stepper motor controllers? And(!) for discrete components that can be used for voltages or current beyond the available ICs (e.g., L298)? With pointers to application notes for same? :-)

FYI, I've got some "linear positioners" (stepper motor with a built-in lead screw), rated at 24v, 0.2a, which if run at the "normal" higher voltage multiplier, will exceed L298 ratings.

While I'm at it, does anyone have designs for minimal cost/parts count power supplies for steppers (e.g., 80v, 2a, x(?)% ripple -- what is x?)
