Hi There, Ok I am currently in the design phase of building a machine for my business to do alot of the drilling and edging work involved in the drums I make. My question is I have some motors which are astrosyn 34 they are 3 v/phase 4 a/phase and 1.8deg per step I am looking for some controller boards that dont cost the earth for these and I need it to be 4 axis I was wondering if anyone can recommend anything ? I have seen these on ebay and have emailed the guy about them but do they look like they might work ? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/4-Axis-CNC-Ste...QQcmdZViewItem Anyway thanks for any help in advance ![]() Francis |

| Your motors are 4amps/phase but this drive has only 1.8amps/phase (RMS). You could use it but your motors will produce less than half of their possible power. As this is for a bussines application you would be much better off with decent drives. 4amps is just above most DIY drives (usually up to 3Amps). Picsteps at 3Amps would get you close if you can build them yourself. If you want ready made and have no problems you should consider Gecko's, Ok they are a bit expensive but are worth every bit of their money. There are other drives out there but as far as I know none can match the price/performance of a Gecko. PS: I am in no way affiliated with them... |

| Those drivers will drive the motors, but you will get crap performance. First off the current is is 2.5A, this is about half of what you need. Second is voltage, 30V is not that high, and if you want to get any speed, you will need to double that voltage. Gecko drivers are ok, but there is no distributor in the UK, so you will need to get them from the US, and will most likely be hit with Duty and VAT when you take delivery. I would suggest using drivers from motion control products, they have a good range, and the MSD542 is a very competative driver, and i have used quite a few now, but if you want to get the best frokm your motor use the msd980, i have also used these and i found them better than the gecko driver.
