    Hi,

I had bought three 42S33-03 stepper motors and i dont know wich wire is wich. I need to know wich two are the ones that i have to connect to the power supply (12v 0.3a each).

You can see the datasheet diagram in the attached image or clicking the following link...

I had also built the pic bases controller that i found in the open source section...

    http://www.pminmo.com/3axisPIC/3axisPIC.htm

Step motors don't work by just hooking them to power. It's done by sending step and direction signals to the motor from a driver, generally that signal is initiated by a controller or a computer.

Advice; spend lots of time reading, make a plan as to exactly what kind of machine you want and then decide what to purchase.

This forum is a good place to gain a lot of that knowledge.
    good luck,
    jb

    I know that.
I also put a link to the controller that I made.

So, I have the controller, I have the motors, but I need help on wich wire/colour is wich one (power, step, etc).

In the attachment are the coil schematic and each wire colour.

    Any suggestion?

    Sorry for my bad english.

    Thanks a lot.
    Martín.

Once again, steppers just don't work that way.

I have attached a pdf file which, if you will work thru it, will explain much better than I can how they DO work!

Look again at the diagrams on the web page you show, power is routed to driver/drivers which in turn amplify the step/direction signals coming from the computer/controller.

If you bought the kit advertised on that page there must have been directions included. And if not you should contact them about their design.

If none of that works, refer to my first post.

Martin, i dont know how to wire 6 wire steppers, but if you search for "6 wire stepper" or something similar you should find all you need.

Now let me explan jhowlb what you are tring to say

He has bought stepper motors(ebay lets say), than build the drives from http://www.pminmo.com

Now is is asking for information how to hook up said steppers to the driver board. Seems you missunderstood what he was tring to say

Hi,Martincho,i have looked the controller link you give, the picture is the 4 phase, but your stepper motor is 2 phase. For 2 phase, there are 6 leads and 4 leads.Obviously, yours is 6 leader, you should connect black and yellow and green, another red and white and blue. Can you understand?

    Have a nice day!

If you have an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the wires to determine the two coils and the center taps for the coils. The center taps will measure roughly half the resistance of the entire coil.

    Thanks everybody for the help!

Hi pminmo! ... can you tell me how to test the board? (i supose you are the same pminmo that build the controller )

    Regards.

Martin, even though you have already built a stepper driver, visit www.geckodrive.com and read the manuals for the G202 and G203v stepper drivers. Be sure to study, really really study, the "Step Motor Basics" recommended by jhowelb. I can't find any specifications on the motors that you listed, but a 12V 0.3A power supply may not work. The smallest power supply that I use with my Gecko stepper drivers is 27V 3A. Of course the size and amp rating of the motor dictates the amount of current capacity of the power supply.

Unfortunately, there are no simple answers to your wiring question. I use the Black and Yellow leads for coil A and the Red and White leads for coil B on most of my motors when I use the Gecko stepper drivers. That is known as half-coil connection. Others might use the Black and Green leads for coil A and the Red and Blue leads for coil B. That is the bi-polar or series connection. Usually the stepper driver dictates which method you would use. Just to make things even more complex, when I use a CSK motor package from Oriental Motor, I connect all six leads to the uni-polar stepper driver. However, the same motor can be connect all three ways, depending on the stepper driver and the performance required from the stepper motor.

The controller is on my website, yes. I haven't built that particular controller. There are a number of questions and answers on my bulletin board about it:
