...energize it and use a torque wrench (if you have a light weight oz/incher)
What is the best way to determine how many ounces a motor is?i have a fastron type 23KM-K307-G3V. it is out of a tektronix Phaser 850 printer.
...energize it and use a torque wrench (if you have a light weight oz/incher)

Thanks "oldmanandhistoy" i have been looking for the conversion factor. Is this a good motor to start with? I am going to be milling wood, plastic and eventually aluminium. Do I want to go with a bigger motor later on? Thanks
Down load the converter here http://www.cnczone.com/modules.php?n...warticle&id=23 for Windows.
Have you got the machine frame built/bought yet?
If not forget about the stepper motors and electronics until you have; unless you are on a tight budget and need to estimate costs first.
If you have then it is impossible for anyone to advice on stepper motor recommendations without a lot of information about the machine frame.
Have a look at this thread for calculating stepper motor size. What motor, screw and gearing should I choose? v1.2

working on the top half right now. getting ready to start on the screw and the axis nuts. this is all new to me and i am taking it slow so i can research any problems that come up.
