    How hot does your motors get?

    Hi All,

    Just tested my motors and they got abit warm when running mach2 demo. How hot is too hot? Thanks.

    Dear Alex,

    Steppers run hot. What limits the maximum temperature at which you can run a motor is the temperature rating of the insulation.

    For example....

    NEMA class A insulation is good up to 105 degrees centigrade. That means that if ambient is 40 degrees C, the motor coil can cope with a temperature rise of 65 degrees C.
