    How long does it take?

I was wondering if anybody knew of a formula to determine how long it takes for a winding of a step motor to reach full current. I can see it as a function of resistance, inductance, and voltage, but am not certain how they are all mathematically related. Thanks

that all depends on the speed and load the motor in under,if you where moving fast and hit somehting solid, the motor would reach full current quite instantly, why do you want this info?if i may ask?usually one doesnt worry about the time to reach full load, only that the motor is suitable for ones use

I am writing a report on some of the phyiscs of step motors. Included needs to be plenty of formulas .

The correct answer is infinity but you can assume 3 RL time constants

Thankyou . For some reason, I never thought about steppers an RL circuit. I just had a "duh" moment

You can make the assumption only at very low speeds - BEMF and geometry variations will cause all kinds of fun stuff to happen as things rotate
