I am a total noobie but am building a CNC router. I know a lot of people ask what steppers to use and I understand that is way to general of a question to be answered properly. I have a question on motor sizing but hopefully will be able to ask it in a way that I can get a simple direct answer.
My first build is going to be in the in the range of 24"-Y, 18"-X and 7"-Z. It will be built using 1/2" 10TPI ACME lead screws with Delrin nuts. It will be used mainly for wood with a laminate trimmer initially.
I was planning on using 269oz steppers with a Xylotex controller.
I understand that going to a larger motor will potentially limit the top speed.
I plan on mounting a full size router, if not on this first build, on the next one.
I know if your not able to run the router through the stock quick enough you will have problems with burning the wood.
So, now my question (sorry to be so long winded).
If I get the 425oz steppers will the potential loss of top end speed be enough to cause problems with the router potentially burning the wood or will the potential loss of speed in this application be negligible ?
Thanks,
