Question Stepper Motor Suitability?

Hi All

I have ordered plans for for a small gantry router mainly for PCB work, and have a thread about power supply running here

http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29797

I have found for a reasonable price several of these steppers, just need to know what the more experienced chaps here think (Not commited to buying them yet)?

The only thing is it does not say whether they are uni polar or bipolar

http://www.el-co.ru/motors/57BYG008.htm

Many thanks
Andy

Like this motor?
http://motioncontrolproducts.co.uk/p...products_id/15

It is a 6 wire motor (unipolar or bipolar)

Question

Hi mcpltd

Yup, Like the one on your site, it was the closest to the steppers that were shown in the images for the machine plans.

I have just had an email back from the seller and he has said that the motors that the machine was designed for was the TANDON KP4M2-203, (drawing attached), as far as I can find out these were originally used in TANDON 5.25" Full Height Floppy Disk Drives!

I was trying to find a Stepper motor(s) with better operating specs and holding torque but with the same 31mm mounting hole centres.

I want to make sure that the motors will drive the machine, Alu construction and safely control the combined weight of the z axis and 230v 5,000-30,000RPM Hobby Die Grinder that weighs about 1Kg.

Any thoughts appreciated

Regards
Andy

That motor looks like a standard Nema 16 39mm, the 57BYG is a nema 23 and is a lot larger.
We also stock a whole range of Nema 16 motors as well, but you will need the full specifications the torque details.

Hi mcpltd

Here is what I have been able to find for the tandon stepper:-

Phase V = 12vdc
Phase Current = .15A
Phase Resistance = 37.5ohms
Step = 1.8deg
Length = 39
Width = 39
Depth = 34
ax Dia = 5mm
ax len = 27mm
Weight 27g
Opposite end of axis optional encoder fitting

I cannot find any thing on its torque other than it share same/similar values as a KH39GM2-801

But I think your FLT39ST44-0304B is about the best bet, from your store (that looks like osCommerce to me )

All the best
Andy

That should give you a bit more torque, but it is longer.

The length should not be too much of a problem, attached is a pic of a finished machine, which is what mine should look like when complete!

BTW how much would 3 of those steppers be with delivery to Hull.

regards

It works out to be £61.81 in total for three delivered.
Will need to check on monday if they are in stock though.
We normally have have stock from nema 8 to Nema 34, but you never know.

Hi mcpltd

Been thinking over the weekend, the double shaft may make things a little long.

Are the FLT39ST44-0304A, same price?

Also are they 2 phase .3A per coil .6A total per motor, or single phase with max of .3A only.

I have just checked and we only have 2 of the FL39ST44-0304A in stock
We do have 5 of the FL39ST38-0504A in stock though, and this would be a higher torque and lower inductance as well.
The price is lower at £13.02 each (£57.64 Delivered)
And it is 4 wire (2 Phase) and the current is per phase.
