Smile should i belt my motor

I am using a stepper motor to rotate a disc of not more than 6 inches in diameter. a automatic feeder will to feed abrasive paper into this disc. the disc will rotate and halt for the feeder to feed in paper and continue rotating til the disc is done.
is it recommanded to belt drive the motor, or run directly to the disc.

You need to know the Torque of the motor at the required speed and the torque required by the application, including how fast you want to accelerate/decelerate.
