I thought this photo might help in identifying the attached stepper. The stepper is a Cyclonome Model # 21-3437D200-F075 made by Sigma Instruments in Brookline, MA. The dimensions of the stepper are; 3 3/8" in dia. by 3 3/4" tall. The mounting plate is 3 1/4" square and the shaft is 3/8" in dia. There are 8 wires. I don't have a clue as to the torque, voltage etc. I've looked online trying to find specifications but have not found anything as yet. What does one do in a situation like this? Is there a compendium of some sort out there for legacy steppers with specifications? Any help would be appreciated. Regards, Bob |

| Well you should compare it to other similarly sized motors that you can find data for. Judging by the looks and size, it will have about 150 oz-in holding torque when run unipolar. As for phase voltages, just measure the resistance of the windings and determine the necessary voltage and current to produce the power dissipation that would put it on par with other similarly sized steppers. |

| Thanks, Zach and Jason, I will try to find a similar nema 34 stepper and see what the characteristics are. In addition to dimension, does a nema specification also pertain to voltage, amps, and holding torque? Zach, I can understand measuring the resistance of the windings but beyond that, I'm lost. Bob |

| Well, I have this slosyn nema34 very similar to yours rated 2.5V 4.6A. That's 11.5 Watts (P=V*I), and all steppers that size will dissipate about that much power just sitting there. So lets say I had another unknown stepper that had 1 ohm coils, then from P=(I^2)*R, I=sqrt(11.5/1)=3.4 and V=I*R so V=3.4*1=3.4V. |
