Three Phase Motors

I recently sniped this nice little slide off ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1

and it came with this 3 phase step motor:

http://www.berger-lahr.de/index.php?...44&language=en

I probably wont use the motor, but I was curious if anyone has any experiance with these. They sound like nice motors with better specs than 2 phase motors.

I did find a driver from Cyber Pak for around 100 bucks, but all the others were 200-300.

Just wondering if anyones used these before?

I am not familiar with the Berger Lahr motor you are refering too, but we are using KT60 Trysin 3 fase 0.6 dgr/step motors and they are running verry smoothy.
I build the drivers myselft with components from the original driver boards, in practisch the application example of the HA13532, a 3fase stepping motor controller and the SLA 6023 drivers.

Very nice work, AbSat. I will keep my eye open to see more on your 3 phase stepper drivers. They are supposed to be much superior to 2 phase motors, more high speed torque and much smoother. The Berger Lahr motor is of the finest quality, someday I must get it moving to see how it works.

For the moment I have two complete servo systems that I need to find homes for, before I start on another driver experiment. It will be easy to attach one of the servo's I have to the slide, it will make a beutifull Z axis.

Keep up the fine work AbSat, cheers!

Wow, 600 Ipm!

This is going to be fun, I put a 100 Watt Yaskawa AC servo motor I got on this slide and after tuning in Mach3 it just friggin screams! I am happy with the 600 IPM I have it at now, but it will go even faster. This will be the first , the Z axis, of my next router. I am still deciding on the cutting mechanics, I hope to go plazma or laser but because of cost I may have to stick with a high speed/low mass spindle router for light metals and wood.

Ive got the Y axis done also, except for mounting the motor. I have to figure out the X axis before mounting it, because the Y axis motor will mount to the upright suport of the X axis, like many typical gantry machines. Y axis is an enclosed Bahr ACME lead screw actuator 36 inches long with a 200 Watt Yaskawa AC servo and a belt/pulley motor connection.

Overall dimensions will be 5 ft. X 3 ft. X 6 in.

I have another 200 Watt servo for the X axis, but I am undecided on how I will drive it. I am thinking an open ball screw may be too long for the speeds I will be trying to go.

Any comments or ideas on the best way to drive a 5 ft. axis at 400 - 600 IPM? Belt drive? Rack and pinion? Lead screw?
