Running uinpolar as bipolar

Wanting to run a unipolar 6vdc/1.2a as a bipolar. Do set current as same a unipolar? Or should I set it at a lower amp?

Assuming you have a six wire motor (most of the info pertains to eight wire motors also):

If you have a 5 wire, you can't run it bipolar (without a mod to the motor wiring).

Well, one can run 5-wire stepper with H-bridge (bi-polar). However very inefficiently since the winding that supposed to stay open will be shorted when another is energized with current. To improve it mods to the motor have to be made as Phil mentioned.
