    Hobbycnc kit

Does anyone have any opinion or have this hobbycnc set up for motors and a driver? What are the pro's and con's of uni-polar vs. bi-polar stepper motor?

    4 Axis 4AUPC Kit + (4) 200oz-in, 3v, 3A
    Dual Shaft Steppers
    $279USD + $19 USA S/H

What do you intend to use the motors for? Unipolar = more speed less torque and bipolar = more torque and less speed. Its a good price for what you get.
If it doesn't work BUY BIGGER MOTORS!!

That kit and motors would work just fine on that mill. Make sure you buy a good power supply capable of supplying between 24-40 volts for best motor performance. It is easiest to make one using a transfomer and capacitor.

I asked Hobbycnc about this kit on a mini mill and his reply was that is it too small and I need at least 300oz motors which they do not sell.

Try Keling Inc. I run their steppers. Very strong and decent prices. You will want to do some comparisons and look for 6 or 8 wire steppers to use with HobbyCNC. They have a Nema 23 8 wire that will get around 300 oz/in at 2 amps in unipolar mode. Model KL23H286-20-8B. Drive it with 24volts or better, prefer mid 30s VDC.

The last number and letter of the part number is the wire count and A for single shaft, B for dual shaft.
