The Centent is basically an earlier version of the Gecko G201, designed by the same person.
Hello all,
The last weeks I have been browsing CNCZone and other forums to get as much info as possible to understand everything, but that seems a bit to much.
What I finally would like to have:
- foamcutter of about 40"x40"x100" (I allready have the axis), something like the 8linx cutter
- a cnc router of about 4'x8', but for now we'll keep that a dream
I decided to start collecting materials for a small 3-axis machine that will be able to draw a vectorillustration with (something like) a pencil.
I allready have dismantled a few scanners and printers and now have some simple stepper motors to use for this testproject.
The goal of this project is only to see if I am able to make something that is computerdriven (looking forward to the feeling that must give).
I do not really understand the electronics of drivers, so I think it is best to buy something that is ready to use, but there are to many options in to many price ranges so I hope you can help me.
I would like to have drivers that can be used with different motors for different projects, basicly I want a driverset that can be used for: my testproject, my foamcutter and my router. Is that possible?
On a local website I found an offer of Centent CN0142 drivers, you can see an image on this page, they are available for about 55USD (ex. tax/vat and shipping).
What do you think about these, they say it is about the same as the Gecko G202. Will this be usable for a testsystem with motors of different types/makes (about 27V) and will it also be enough for a large router that cuts wood?
My other point is:
on this link you will see a driver for the 4-axis foamcutter, in my eyes this is a very simple and cheap solution. When I tried to buy something like this here in Holland (the Netherlands) they advised me this 4D step chopper driver (bottom of page). You might understand that I am a bit confused at the moment.
I hope you experts can help me forward a bit.
Any help/advise/tips is really appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Jaap-Jan

Thanks for the reply Gerry, what do you think about the price and do you think it is a good solution for me?
Thanks

I have built several systems for other people using the Centent CN0143 drives. Also, there is another drive which is exactly like the 142 except it has the OMC (Oregon Microsystems Co.) on them.Originally Posted by JJ_O
The drives are older versions of Gecko's as Ger mentioned. The Gecko 201 manual is used for the Centent and OMC drives.
The standard going price for the Centent and OMC's are about Fifty Dollars in US currency.
I recommend both the Centent and OMC drives and they are interchangeable. They will furnish 6+ Amps of current with a voltage rating of 24 to 80 Volts. They should work good at 27 Volts DC, but 35 Volts would be good even for a wood router up to 1 meter each on X and Y axis.
Hope this helps.
