    Axis movement is not smooth

    Hi
I was doing some 3D surface cuts with my CNC and noticed that the axis
movement was jerky. This problem made the machine frame rock back and
forth to a surprising degree. I was given the recommendation to go to
micro-steps on the 1200 oz*in motors. I did change the jumpers on the
geckos and that didn`t seem to make a difference. I then increased the
acceleration of the motors in Mach3 by over 50% of their previous
value. Should I now be concerned that I might be more prone to miss-
steps. This change made the steppers perform very smoothly and that
    disconcerting gantry movement disappeared.
PS...once in a while I also hear a high pitch vibration coming from the
steppers. The noise is intermittent. I wonder what is the cause of the vibration?

    Regards Barry

Are you using Constant Velocity mode?

Are you sure? does is say G64 at the top while your code is running? Do you have the angular discrimination turned on?

I am running 2 1200oz-in steppers, had the same problem.

Fix this resonance problem by adjusting the 'trimpot screw' on the back of the gecko's.

Got rid of 99% of my vibration probs!

    trimpot screw-resonance problem

    Hi Apples

How is that trimpot screw used to reduce the resonance.
Are there any tips or tricks to adjusting the trimpot or is
it very straightforward. This sounds like my problems will
    be solved.

    Regards Barry

All I did, was run the machine at a slow speed to make the vibration noises. Then I just turned the trimpot screw untill it went quiet.

    To easy
