    tb6560 vs G540 vs HobbyCNC

I'm always wondering, how does the tb6560 compare to geckos and hobby Cnc boards?

There is no comparison. tb6560 boards are the worst, Hobby CNC in the middle with Gecko at the top.

    That's my opinion anyway.

Since the geckos and the tb6560 are both bipolar doesn't that make them better than the unipolar hobby Cnc board?

Maybe, when you swear at the first two for not working and finally receive a non-dud. No thanks, I'll pay more and get something that works the first time.

To wit, I don't know of many (if any) prople who've had serious problems with the HobbyCNC board.

The HobbyCNC can handle more voltage and more current, which equals more power.
From what I've read, the tb6560 can't even be run at it's so called rated voltage.

The reason I was asking was I have the tb6560 right now, but want to know if my speeds are low or not. I have 270 ozin Nema 23 steppers, 3/8-12 acme and dumpster AB nuts on my microcarve imposter. My max cutting speeds are 35in/min at .25 doc and my rapids are about the same speed. Thanks for your responses, I'm really curious to know.

    well, i have 3 ..... Fried TB6560's at the moment :P

i've bought one 3 weeks ago and it fried after 10mins, then i got a second one from the seller... fried after 5 min's.
then i got an 'advanced' tb6560 to replace that one (3.5A instead of 3.0A)... guess what? it fried too!
but this one did ran for one hour.
good thing they all were sent while still in guaranty and they will be called back.

but my conclusion (and after reading this forum) is that these boards are crap!

Sorry to hear about that, it hasn't happened to me yet, guess I'm lucky. You must be using the wrong settings or to high of a power supply voltage. I'm using a 24volt power supply and I had to try a few pdfs to find the right settings for mach 3.

the firs time it fried it was because of the wrong settings.
but the 2nd and third time was weird... everything worked with now using the right settings and right voltage + i connected the motors straight to the controller but when i built-in the controller to an enclosure box i had to use CB-Din connectors. with the use of these connectors between the controller and the motor the 3 chips fried imediatly.
logicaly i thought i had connected the motors wrong but after inspecting and measuring everything this was not the case. still the chips fried and also on my 3rd board they fried.... still don't know what went wrong because i didn't meassure any short-cirquits

Yes, that is a little slow. But part of the problem is your 12tpi screws.
At 35ipm, your motors are spinning at 420 rpm. Most of us have found that 2-4 turn/inch screws give the best balance of speed and precision. With 4 turn/inch screws, you're speed would be close to triple, probably about 100 rpm. A better drive would probably double that still.

With my Xylotex, and 250oz motors, I can get about 550 rpm on my Z axis.

On my X and Y axis, I added dampers to remove resonance, and can get about 750 rpm.
I've heard many reports of people seeing 1500 rpm with the G540.
