Stepper Motor Question

Sorta a newbie here and have a question. I purchased the cheapest kit I could find and am paying for it ( I should have known.. ). One of the motors is so poorly machined and will not work unless the motor is loose. So I had a 8 wire stepper and wired it for a 4 wire controller. Works fine except it goes in both directions. Sometimes it goes up, sometimes down. It is a American Precision M233-09. The colors of the wires are:

Black
Black/wht
Red
Red/wht
Orange
Orange/wht
Yellow
Yellow/wht

Anyone know the correct way to wire this, or have any pointers?

If it's moving, then it's mostly likely wired correctly. If it were wired wrong, it would probably kill your drive immediately.

What are you using to run the motor? Usually, when you get inconsistent directions, it's due to the PC, possibly a weak parallel port.
