    Unknown Motor idetentification ?

My Dad let me have some CNC bits he had knocking about.

Amongst the bits were 2 screws with steppers attached and a larger stepper with no rating plate.

with a rating of 11A at 1.5v do I need any special kind of driver ?
Can I test it with a 5A driver board ?
How do I go about figuring which wire is which ? There are 6 wires.

You just need an ohm meter to figure out your motor wires. You can test the motors with less than the rated current, you just won't have the rated torque. I would drop those babies on ebay and replace them with some newer square frame motors. 11amps is a lot of current for 450oz of torque. you can get that with 3amps on the newer motors, and probably still achieve the same speeds you would have gotten with those.

Hi there everyone,I recently purchased a cnc machine but had to return it as it was not complete and the replacement machine had noticably smaller stepper motors, they were square in appearance and the first machine had motors that were longer than they were wide. They are supposed to be Nima 23 stepper motors and the dealer tells me now that size makes no difference and that both sizes are 23 motors . Does anyone know if this is the case or am I being mislead.

I found a link to the spec of my motor.
    550 Oz/In in series mode ?

spec here MC SUPPLY CO: Bodine Electric Co, KB Electronics, Brake Motor, Stepper, Gearmotor, Gearboxes, Clutch/Brake

these seem like heavy duty motors, it would be nice to see them working !
