Intermittent pauses at every 1.8 degree for stepper motor

Hi,

I am currently using a 3v/phase stepper motor together with a microstepper IMS 1007 and using computer to generator signal via national instrument daq card.
I am not sure why my motor is unable to turn smoothly. At large steps such at 400 steps/revolution, the stepper motor can turn at a constant speed but the turning is quite coarse.
When I tried 1000,2000,5000,10000,25000steps/revolution, intermittent pauses at every 1.8degree occur. My signal frequency is for the motor to turn at a period of around 12sec -55 sec/ revolution.
I have uploaded a video of the problem in the following link.

YouTube - Stepper motor
In the video, the delta wing which is attached to the stepper motor is supposed to turn smoothly for 45 degree.

I have tried to use a function generator to ensure constant signal.
I have also tried to change to another stepper motor.
I have also tried another microstepper SD-2H086MB.

But it does not seem to solve the problem.

Is there any one who can help me with this? I need it quite urgently for my project.

thank you.

Tripple check your wiring to pins 6, 7, 8, and 9. It almost sounds like your step and direction pins are swapped.

Using Labview? Your own VI?

Hi,

Thank you for the reply.

I have tried using a function generator. regardless of 8000step/rev or 10000steps/rev, I realised that if the frequency of the function generator is at 1000hz and above the turning will be smooth. however if the frequency of the function generator is less than 1000hz, intermittent pauses begin to surface every 1.8degree. and it becomes even more obvious at 500 hz. Can I know what is the reason?

I am will be using labview but some how I am experiencing this problem even using a very stable signal from function generator.
My professor says it maybe due to resonance.
Could it it?

thank you

What voltage power supply are you using with the IM1007 ? And what value current setting resistor do you have across pins 4 and 5 of P2 ?

The IM1007 requires a minimum of 24V to operate correctly and you must have the appropriate current setting resistor in place.

If you do not have it... here is a link to the full manual for the IM1007.

The SD-2H086MB also requires at least 20 V to operate correctly. It has switches to set the correct current for the motor.
