| I found these motors on the alltronics site: Lin Engineering - 5718L-12E-01 Bipolar stepper motor and bought a couple thinking I could use them with one of various A3977 boards I own (Xylotex, Probotix, and Rockcliff), however now I am not sure. The spec sheet can be found here: http://www.alltronics.com/mas_assets/acrobat/28M069.pdf. I have a basic understanding of how steppers work, and how to wire them, what I am lacking is how to go about figuring out the electrical requirements for a given motor. I think I can drive the motor listed as bipolar parallel up to 2.8A , but I am not sure and would like to know how to figuring it out since it would make buying surplus stuff a lot easier . I did read in some document on the Lin Engineering site that the voltage did not matter as long as the Amp limit was followed. Here is some additional documentation: wiring diagram (pdf) and product detail page. I have done a bunch of goggle searches but have not found anything useful. Any help figuring out the how to set these up would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, GrumpyGeek |

| OK, I did some more searching this morning and found a couple of documents that helped me figure out the motors: Lin Engineering Standard part numbering system Lin Engineering Stepper Motor FAQ And this is the best stepper motor tutorial I have come across so far: How Stepper Motors Work So my original guess that I could run these up to 2.8A seems correct (2A x 1.414 for using the micro-stepping board with bipolar parallel wiring). The driver maxes @ 2.5 so I shouldn't be able to screw it up, if you think I am in error please let me know before I let the magic smoke out .Thanks again, GrumpyGeek |
