Building first cnc router

I wired the drivers for my first cnc router yesterday. Unfortunately they do not respond to any command from the computer.

I'm using 3 keling kl-6050 drivers with a db25 b.o.b. I'm using emc2.
The drivers are wired up according to the diagram provided on the keling website. The motors lock as soon as the power supply is turned on but that is as far as it goes. Drivers and b.o.b do not respond to any other input fron the computer. I suspect the problem has to with my pin configuration. I am using pin 2-7 for step and direction, the rest ase unused.

any help whatsoever will be greatly appreciated.

Eduard

Do you have a ground wire connected from the printer port to the BOB ?

Steve

Thanks for the reply. I did not know you needed one. Where would you put it in?

The only thing I have going from the printer port to the bob is the DB25 printer cable with a male-to-male adapter. Could the problem be with the adapter? I noticed the wires cross over from left to right through the adapter but it is still consistent with the pin numbering on the plug.

Where would I connect the ground wire to?

Eduard,

Ok, if it is indeed a printer cable then the ground connections should be there. Are you sure it is a printer cable and not a serial cable? They look very similar, but serial cables may not have all the wires that a parallel cable has. They both use DB25 connectors so it is easy to be confused. Also, I'm not sure what computer you are using, if it a very old one, the serial port may be a MALE DB25 connector. The printer port will be a FEMALE DB25.

What BOB are you using? Does it have it's own power connection for 5V ? Does the male-male adapter have all 25 wires?

Steve,

The breakout board was the one suppled with the keling drives simply known as a DB25 bob. The bob needed I'ts own 5v power supply and according to the diagram the positive lead of the supply had to be connected to each drive as well as the board.

That's all ancient history now though seeing as I fried that board this afternoon while probing it with a multimeter and a oscilloscope.

I contacted the guys from keling via their ebay account to try and order a c10 bob. Hopefully i'll have more luck with that.

In the meantime I don't suppose anybody knows how to connect the drives directly to the parallel port. It will take a while before the bob reaches south africa.

Thanks for all the help so far.

Eduard
