Picked up a very nice set of 12" preloaded ballscrews on ebay the other day, see the pics. The seller, "mecha401" now has additional sets listed. There only 12" long but would be perfect for a mini mill conversion. There not ground but are brand new and run very smooth. There listed as 0 blacklash and from what I can feel there on the money.
The drive end is custom so I am thinking about have them machined. They have a special half round bearing race built right on to the screw but I am not sure how I can take advantage of it....anybody? I might just leave it alone and find bearings to fit the treaded section (11mm).
Another issue which I am new to is the ball nut itself. Its the cylinder type with a 22mm x 1 mounting thread. I was thinking of boring the mounting block and lightly press fitting the whole nut with in then add some set screws. If I go this way I can skip the cost of a tap ($70.00???) but will it work. I see Thomson also has a threded cylinder nut but I am not sure of the thread size.
Any ideas would be helpful. As soon as I get all my parts I will start to take pics as it comes together. What I am attempting to build is desktop mill from a half built prototype I picked up on EBay last week.
Thanks, al be back! |
