I'm getting ready to purchase a new stepper/driver kit. My machine is a wood router with xyz of 40" x 40" x 6". Using 1/2-8-4start acme's on x and y and 1/2-10 single start on z. Gantry weight is approx 70-75 pounds with the router. My first machine is using the Keling 425 oz/in motors with 4030 drivers, c10 BOB and 24v PS. I have had no problems at all in 1 1/2 years with this setup. For my new machine I am trying to decide between the same kit as above but with a 36v PS. And Keling's 3 axis kit with a Gecko 540, 387 oz/in steppers, and 48v PS. Does one of these stand out as being MUCH better than the other? I've read how everyone likes the Gecko's. Are they worth the loss in torque from the smaller steppers? If so, Will it even be noticeable on this machine? Also, do I need resistors with the Gecko or are they built in? Anybody tried the tb6560 drivers? How are they? Which one would you use on your machine? Thank you very much for any input on this, Jeff Last edited by Ranscon; 10-09-2010 at 03:32 PM. | I remember reading those 425 oz/in motors need around 70 volts to get good performance. The higher voltage of the gecko kit should give you faster speed.
