Folks, I have a EAD LA34AGK-26R stepper motor I picked up from work (they were tossing it as it was an unneeded spare...). It's known specs are: EAD LA34AGK motor NEMA 34 class Hybrid motor Unipolar 4.7 ohms across the coils 2.35 ohms from center tap to ends of each coil Operated on 90V power supply previously I could find a bit of information on the LA34AGK-?? class of motors, but nothing on the -26R motor. They specs are all over the place, so I can't use a "good enough" call. Also, the coil inductance is unknown and do not have the test equipment to measure it. (I really need to pick up a decent LCR meter...) Obviously, the original stepper drivers did not hold the coils with 90V across them. Does anyone have any idea what the holding current should be on something like this? I would really like to get this thing running doing something as it appears to be a pretty good motor. In it's previous life, it was rotating an arm on a piece of semiconductor processing equipment. Thanks for the help!

| The LA34AGK-2 has a resistance of 0.85 ohm, current = 3 Amp The LA34AGK-4 has a resistance of 3.30 ohm, current = 1.6 Amp Your -3XX motor with a resistance of 2.35 sits in between the 2 above. So an educated guess would be something around 2 Amp (probably a bit more). I would start to use it with a setting of 1.6 - 1.8 Amp and see how it works, especially monitor the motor's temperature, if it stays cool then increase the current settings. Note that the above is for unipolar, you can extrapolate the same way for bipolar. The R in the suffix means rear shaft option. Done similar approaches several times with succes. hope this helps. |
