| Thats a lot to cover.... Here is a link to a PDF about steppers... http://www.solarbotics.net/library/p...f/motorbas.pdf A stepper is driven with a "Stepper motor driver" most of which have inputs for "Step" and "Direction". The most common stepper motors will have 200 steps per revolution in full step mode. With the motor shaft connected to a long screw (M14 threaded rod with a 2mm pitch) then for every 100 steps of the motor you get 1mm of linear motion of a nut on the screw. The nut would normaly be affixed to the moving part of the axis. In some, the Z axis has the motor and screw assembly moving and the nut stationary.
