| hi, i am new to this forum, I know that unipolar stepper motor has 2 Phase usually, i have a stepper motor which is rated 1A per Phase..My Concern is am i supposed to give 1A or 2A to the motor as total current, since it has 2 phase...?..am really confused....I know that many of you know this already ...but please help me out on this.. |

| Hi Naveen. Firstly, Unipolar only uses ONE phase--Hence the uni prefix instead of the Bi prefix. When sizing PSUs for steppers, we use the Amp per phase rating only. | Naveen: I have to correct what I said about Unipolar motors only using one phase--They DO use 2 phases, but only ONE of each phase's 2 coils at a time. A unipolar motor uses one coil of each phase for forward and the other coil for reverse. Still only uses 1 Amp if rated 1 Amp per phase though. Sorry for the misinformation. I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote that. CR.
