Is there such a thing ? I'm building my first cnc mill right now. I have quite a heavy gantry (30kg) , I tried some 150oz motors (which I had laying aroung) and they missed 1 of every 3 steps (and I was gearing 1:3,6). So larger steppers it is ![]() I'm thinking about making an offer on 1500oz stepper motors, but I only have a controller which can driver 3A 32V. Will this setup make any sense ? These motors are 4 wire and are available both in series and paralell. Both will probably work fine, I was thinking to buy the serial ones (I was guessing that would probably be safer since my controller is not bigger than that.) This is a hobby machine, I want to be able to mill wood and Aluminium, so I can upgrade the drivers and PSU when wife forgets how much it costs so far ![]() I have a picture of the machine in the new machine build thread if you are interested. Please advice, Gunnar I. T. |

| Don't use high torque motors. The inductance is too high. They would be challenging to drive even for a top notch high voltage controller. Don't waste money on high torque motors. You will get the best performance with a better driver, matched to a motor with as low inductance as possible. A 1000 oz-in motor with an 80v power supply will put the 1500 oz-in motor to shame. |
