minebea steppers

hi to all here.
i have 3 minebea 17PM-H103-P2 motors
but i cant finde datasheet for them on minebea site.
anyone know specifications for them?
and can i drive them with stepper driver like this one http://pminmo.com/PMinMOwiki/index.php5?title=L297-8

I can't seem to find any torque specs for this particular motor.

However, I did find that it has 6 wires. This means it's a Unipolar motor, and generally you'll need a Unipolar driver. However, refer to this link:

http://www.probotix.com/stepper_moto...polar_bipolar/

And you are able to wire 6-Wire Unipolar motors as Bipolar in 2 different configurations; Half-Coil and Series. Half-coil will not change the specifications of the motor. However, Series will. The resistance will double, the motor's inductance will quadruple, and the voltage required will increase by a factor of 1.414; the required current needed however, will drop down to 70% of it's usual rating, and the torque will increase by a factor of 1.414.

Hope this was helpful.

tnx for the help.
i have the bipolar drivers allredy.
so what wiering is beter series or half coil?
can i get more power if i wier them in series?

Well it all depends on the power supply really. You are able to get more holding torque out of Series, BUT you'll need a power supply that has significantly higher voltage, albeit with lower amperage. Half-coil would require a lot lower voltage, and 30% more amperage. Do you have a power supply yet?

Usable yes, but the voltage seems a little low.
Steppers are driven with constant current and the driver voltage should be as high as your driver circuit (L298 allows up to 45V peak) allows.
If you have some serious intentions you better use 24V or more.

Does this suggest it's dual 13.5V coils ?
In that case you should use the full swing of 2x13.5V = 27V for the driver.
That sound more fun as just 13.5V.

Yeah, 13.5V is pretty low for pretty much any motor/driver combo. I wouldn't go for less than 24v. Power supplies aren't overly expensive, and you can get a 24v power supply off eBay, MJPA or similar for very little money.

How about a soldering iron and some tin

Please be more precise what you what to do.
More current: wire the coils in parallel
These MUST be identical coils and MUST be the same phase direction, else you will generate a virtual short circut of the coils.

But everybody here were suggesting more voltage.
That means wire the coils in series.
Althought this is also just for equal coils it's is less critical.
In worst case you get no voltage (wrong phase), but nothing will blow.

finished electronics: power supply, stepper drivers and controller.
l297-l298 bipolar stepper drivers and usb cnc controller from krokos site.
power supply have 2 transformers, one from old stereo amplifier and one from old ups (btw case for power supply is also form old ups.) i really dont know how strong ( amps) it is but i know that burned 15 amp grecz i one second.
i think its 25 amp maybe. everything works excellent. i can barely wait to finish mechanics.

Hi mrendu, how did your build go? I bought the same steppers about a year ago and have just gotten around to getting them out of their box, i'm intending to build a little router table with them but still need the drivers + usb, I tried Krako but I think his site must be down. Do you happen to have the plans still from building your boards?

Many Regards

Charlie
