Brand is not particularly important. Choose a motor with a low inductance. (<3mH)
My recommendation would the first motor on this page:
Stepper Motor
Be sure to pair it up with a 48v power supply to get the best performance.
Hi
I'm building a small CNC mill mainly for 3d milling of wood. It's only got a machining area of 300x300x100. I have a G540 controller and I'm wondering what would be the best brand of steppers to use and what size I need. I have heard oriental motor is quite good. What do you all think?
Kind Regards

Hi Anita.
For such a small machine, I would recommend either the $49 381:
KL23H2100-35-4B
or the $39 270:
KL23H276-28-4B
Both on the same page as above.
You will need this resistor for each 381:
MFR-25FBF-52-3K48 Yageo | 3.48KXBK-ND | DigiKey
and THIS resistor for each 270:
Resistors | Through Hole Resistors | DigiKey
