I would not connect that type of probe directly to any pin on the smooth stepper

as you can not easily obtain an opto-isolater board
is it any easier to get a breakout board like this -

CNC TB6550 Board Arduino UNO Board Estlcam-breakout-board-opto-isolated-inputs-jpg
( in this example the USB power cable is not needed to use just the inputs
but the isolated 12 to 24V supply will be )

a number of chinese spindle motors do not have the earth pin connected inside the motor

connecting the smoothsteppers ground to the cutter could result in damaging currents flowing into the smooth stepper
unless the spindle and the smoothstepper ground terminals are already connected by low resistance cables to a common ground terminal (usually the "star point" in the control box )

    John,

    Is this the opto-isolator?

Here the breakout board. If a decide to use this, is easy to connect the wires etc And how to connect.

the first link is for a relay with an opto -isolated driver

the second link is for the same breakout board I used as an example

both boards have opto-isolators that look like this
CNC TB6550 Board Arduino UNO Board Estlcam-pc817-opto-isolator-jpg

its the simplest type that has an infra red LED (pins 1&2) and a NPN photo transistor with no base connection (pins 3&4)
in clear epoxy that is hidden in the outer black epoxy that you see as the black case

when you pass a current through the LED so it emits light onto the transistor
the transistor switches on and acts as a normally open switch which closes with enough light on the base emitter junction

with the PC817 you have 5000V isolation between the LED and the transistor

Sorry with so many questions, John, but can I use any of these 2? And how to use to connect Probe, please.
    Thank you again!

you can use the breakout board with an isolated 12V supply - the BOB has an on board 10V regulator to power the input & VFD circuits

    https://produto.mercadolivre.com.br/...-raspberry-_JM

its just like the breakout board I used as an example in post 61

    John

    PS
based on another version of the BOB shown in post 61

this is the input circuit that can be used to provide 5 more inputs using port 2

    thats the one to use

    PS
I was adding the BOB's input circuit to post 65 while you answered

So i will buy now, ok.

I prefer if you say how to wiring here, using the photo. That circuit, post 65 i did not understand...sorry for the inconvenience John.

Thanks again John. You are a great guy!

I bought yesterday the Big-tex screenset for Mach3 to auto zero the axes. Do you know?I'm studying how to use it. To use I need to place the limit switches on the CNC. Here the site big-tex

I see you have been busy while I put this together

CNC TB6550 Board Arduino UNO Board Estlcam-3-axis-tb6560-plus-smooth-stepper-breakout

the BOB connected to port 2 gives you 5 more inputs
use any one for the probe
the isolated 12 to 24V power supply only needs to be able to supply 100mA

Yes, i have to learn how to install the limits switch and to configure on Mach3...machine coords... etc

Thank you !!!! The diagram is so cool !!! I just bought the breakout board. I have to buy the cables, the power suplly etc

A doubt. Can I use the USB input instead of the 12-24V power supply?

the 12V power supply in post 71 will be OK

most IC regulators need a input that is 2V more than the required output -
the 10V regulator on the breakout board needs a minimum input of 12V

    John,
Is there an advantage or disadvantage in connecting the limit switches NC or NO?!
I saw something that was much better to use "active high" in Mach 3 inputs configuration.

NC is "safer" because if your switch or wires break it'll trip an alarm. As an NO you won't realize something's broken until you are trying to use it

I agree with jahn normally closed switches are safer

the odds are greater that a cable will go open circuit due to repeated flexing
while it is possible for a cable thats been crushed to be short circuited

which limit / home switches are you using ?

    if its this -
CNC TB6550 Board Arduino UNO Board Estlcam-micro-switch-post-48-jpg

for each axis , its easy to wire 2 normally closed switches in series to act as the home and limit switches

with this switch with the LED indicator
CNC TB6550 Board Arduino UNO Board Estlcam-3-wire-switch-led-indicator-post-47-a

it will be easier to wire one switch to one input !

with 4 inputs on the TB6560 board and 5 on the breakout board
you wiil only use 8 of the possible 9 inputs - 6 for each end of the three axis + E-stop + probe

    I did NC connections.
