But what is the formula realy ?

    Inductance is measured in "Henry".
Almost all stepper are in the 1..10mH range (= 1..10*10^-3 H) that would result into single digit Volt according this formula, which is of course nonsense.

Only using "mH" as unit would produce usefull results.

But "mH" is no unit for inductivity, it's unit (H = Henry) + scale factor (m = milli = 10^-3)
So please be precise when posting .

P.S. This is the FAQ you refer to: http://www.geckodrive.com/upload/Gecko%20FAQ.pdf
The voltage suggestion is arround page 8 and it's **bingo** "mH"

So, to be clear, as long as I don't go over the maximum voltage, I can use literally any voltage I want to drive a stepper motor? I ask because I have a bunch of mismatched, salvaged motors and if I can get away with decent performance from one power supply, rather than building three or more different power supplies that'd be awesome.

Literally yes, but be ware of that all the parts determine this, including drivers.
And be shure you check the power dissipation.

Another good thing is the higher driver voltage will effectivly lower the needed power supply current.
A chopper driver operates like a switching power supply, only it's regulating current not the voltage.
It's converting a high voltage with lower current to a constant (high) current at low voltage.
So the questions of post #5 can be answered as well.
The driver is not "eating" the difference voltage and causing excessive power dissipation.
Driver dissipation is only determined by dynamic switching losses and the saturation voltage.

Just in case someone is still searching info about this motor, you can find the datasheet from this link, it is the MS110 model.
