I am building a new CNC mill/router, but I've come to an uncertainty of mine.
The moving gantry with everything attached is projected to weigh around 65-70 kg, I will be using two 20mm diameter, 5mm lead ballscrews to guide the gantry on the X axis (therefore I am going to use two stepper motors). The machine is to mill soft metals, and maybe even some mild steel.
My problem is which motors to use, NEMA 23 or NEMA 34 (has to be one of these types), and what is the minimum motor torque I should be aiming for?
Since I do not have too much experience with building CNC machines, I'd be grateful if someone with more experience could give me an advice.
Thanks
3NM is Minimum use quality steppers like nanotec it is also depending on speeds and acceleration you need simply Calculate it 20% on top for friction and safety here you go
