A stepper with a 3/8" shaft is technically not a Nema 23 stepper.
I am building version 2.0 of my plasma table and am exploring the option of putting planetary gearboxes on my 620oz steppers from candcnc.
Seems like Nema 23 steppers should have 1/4 output shafts and be able to fit into gearboxes like these:
NEMA 23 Frame | AutomationDirect.com
The motors I have purchased a few years ago from candcnc(620oz Bladerunner kit) have 3/8 output shafts!
These are dimensionly similar: http://www.automationtechnologiesinc...flat-570-oz-in
Does anyone make planetary gearboxes to fit a nema 23 stepper with a 3/8 output shaft?

nema 24 has same holepattern but larger shaft
that's why dealers selling as ""nema23"
if you counting on the gearboxes, they going to add as much as you can use nema 34 system .. even for less cost the nema34
since you building a plasmatable, theres no reason to using nema 23.. you have sufficient room for larger motors..
the outside dimension what changing.. 57 mm the nema23 and 60 mm the nema 24 about 1/8 inch
