Id like to build an internal combustion engine, preferably a 2-stroke glow engine. But before i do that, i believe i should build something more simpler than that. Although, i currently dont own a lathe, i can use one, at a local hobby center (A place where local hobbyist gather, and they can use the equipment). I do however own a Wabeco CNC mill. So for starters, i believe i should build somekind of a wobbler. Does anybody have any plans for a wobbler, thats simple to build, and looks good on the shelf. Doesnt have to be free or anything. Oh, i am sorry i didnt quite spot the steam engine forum where this post belongs. |

| I'm at the same place you are. Would like to build an IC engine but lack experience with several key procedures. To build experience I have been working on a Sterling engine. There are plans for one in Home Shop Machinist Nov/Dec 2005 if you have access to this issue. You are certainly going to need access to a lathe though... probably more so than a mill. |

| nonsense! there is a guy named John Webster. and he designed his own 4 stroke ic engine. he has a web site and plans with videos. his plans are maid for the public to see and use he says this engine is for the novice in ic engines and altho very simple its effective. this will be my first ic engine when i get machinery. enough of that http://home.comcast.net/~webster_engines/ (web page^) heck i will make it easy for you (altho still recommend reading his site) here is the video of the engine. he has others on the site with revving but this one is very nice. http://www.ody.ca/~envanandel/engine019.avi and for the best part the plans!!!! http://home.comcast.net/~webster_engines/Plans.zip enjoy |

| I agree with you mutionu, you should definitely try at least 1 wobbler first before attempting an i.c. engine. At least if you ruin a wobbler there's not loads and loads of work gone down the drain. I've made several of these and still don't think I'm up to speed to make an ic engine yet. Going to try a hot air engine after the wobbler I'm making at the moment. I started model engineering when I was about 13, but went to Uni at 18 and pretty much haven't done anything since then. I've just got my workshop set up again, am 27 now so had a break of around 8 years. I designed and am nearly finished a the wobbler in my other post but haven't exactly sailed through that without any problems so I need to practice more before attempting an i.c. engine. Even webster will tell you on his site, he made a few wobblers and other things before attempting his i.c. Practice first otherwise you'll regret it! |
