New feature in 7.1.5.45760 - Commercials

Just installed the latest released version 7.1.5.45760, and it has a new Sprutcam home page which is fine. However, after what appears to be 5 minutes, you get a overlay in the part window that at the top says "Ads will appear in Free and Trial versions. Click to close". Fine, except I have a license. Very annoying.

I'd hold off using this version unless you want to deal with that every 5 minutes.

Danny it was a bug available online for only 10 hours or so. Everything is fixed and the ads won't appear in the purchased versions but only in Free and Trial? The new version is 7.1.5.45786

I know I have stated this before in the forums, it may not be the best idea to download the newest and greatest versions right away. There are a few of us dealers and techs that download and test versions as soon as possible, and communicate directly with SprutCAM. This was the case with the issue that you had with version 7.1.5.45760, you were however faster with this post then they were with fixing the issue.

That is a very good question Mike......

Most of us (myself included) just download every now and then crossing your fingers hoping the newest version didn't break everything that once worked. I really wish they would post checked versions say every month or so rather than the newest version every few days. The files are getting huge to download so one spends a couple hours downloading and installing each version.

As I have stated before the program is generally a good value, but the breaking of things which once worked is very frustrating. The new policy of unchecked updates every few days does nothing to enhance their image.

Where can we get the newest versions? I've looked on both Tormach and SprutCAM America's websites, but can't find anything. I'm running 7.1.3.43319 that I just purchased with my PCNC770. I'm having a lot of problems and I'm not sure if it's bug related or not.

Thanks so much! I was up till about 1:00 last night working on this. It didn't solve my problem but at least I have the latest version which makes me feel a bit better.

Are you getting these from the Sprut Technology web site in Russia? I think of those as a sort of an open Beta and subject to all manner of problems, most of which are probably pretty obscure. I make enough dumb mistakes on my own and avoid these updates.

Tormach has (or had) an FTP web site where the current version could be downloaded but the file name is a little generic, so you usually have to guess from the date stamp whether it is a newer version than the one you already have. If Eric reads this, maybe he could see about including version numbers in the file names.

I have always downloaded my versions from the Russian site, did not know Tormach had a download area or ftp site.

Yes, The Russian versions are mostly daily builds (best one can tell) which I doubt have much testing other than maybe some high level test scripts or something similar. Living on the edge as they say!

Eric at Tormach can provide you with the ftp address for their approved version download site. That's something that needs to come from Tormach itself, I think.

I've had good luck only downloading the version(s) under the "release and update" directory (until this one) Index of ./download/sprutcam/version-7/releaseandupdate/

You can always navigate up one directory and you'll find 7.1.6 and 7.1.7, but those are the daily builds that are likely to have bugs. I'd expect the versions under "release and update" to be clean, and usually are. I just happened to check for a new version and got a bad one.
