Question slow tool geometry/path generating?

Hi, I'm demoing a number of cam/cad software

and I have been playing with SprutCam demo, but I noticed that out of all the software, the tool path generation on this software is the slowest when compared to VisualMill Pro, and OneCNC

Is this normal for this software? running windows 7 pro 64bit plenty of speed 4 core cpu, and 8gb ram

Hi,

Can't say that about any of the items I have made using SC if I understand what you are saying correctly. One clicks the run button and a second later it's done, not sure how much faster it could be.

If you are simulating the tool paths, one can adjust how fast to run through a tool path from very slow to very fast.

well thats not the case with the demo that i downloaded from SprutCAM

it simply takes from 20sec to a few min

I loaded a demo file of the 4th axis and I hit run, and after like 10min I stopped it cause it had not finished

im running windows 7 64bit, with amd phenom II X4 o/c at 3.4ghz about 8gb of ram, and a solid state HD

Also I loaded a 3d model on a few of the cam software did similar if not the same roughing tool path and sprutcam was ridiculously slow compared to others, as you said about a second or so...

not sure whats going on but im not getting the right experience from SprutCAM demo then

I assume that before you press run in the Machiing tab, you have set realistic values of tool etc for an appropriate operation.

When you say from 20sec to a few minutes, I assume you mean for the different operations on the one part.

I would download SprutCAM again (from Tormach site... more reliable links than Russia), uninstall the existing SC, install the new and try again.

Good luck

thank you, i didnt even see the sprutcam site that is for usa, besides the tormach site

that price is far better then even from novedge, which is strange... cause they should be much lower then retail?

I dont think I need the pro, the Master one is more then enough, so long as I get 4th axis index/continuous that is great for the price, going to have to really reconsider this software

SprutCAM America is owned by Tormach. Another example of Tormach's excellent business savvy.
Buying SprutCAM direct from Tormach is cheaper only if you have a Tormach machine. They have invested a lot of effort in developing the training videos and releasing them free. Also the support Tormach provide to the CNC SprutCAM is excellent.

SprutCAM has it problems such as frequent updates that cure bugs but often yes often introduce bugs in previously sound features, and tool paths that occasionally need tailoriing. Also its user interface has inconsistencies and other shortcomings but the excellent Tormach support and very active forum really make the learning curve a lot shallower.

Perhaps the OP could upload his STC file for the members to take a look at. That might be the fastest way to a resolved problem.

I think the reinstalling, and cleaning all the folders that it had did the trick...

though i wanted to run the tutorials/demos/examples, I found that if i did the conversion from metric to imperial the toolpath takes forever and almost always freezes the software :/

Otherwise its working much better, dont know what the issue was before..
