    "around workpiece" not working

The attached project has a 2D Contour operation that ploughs through the part during the "transition" even though "Around Workpiece" is selected. The selection of "via Safe Plane" works fine.
The version I am running is 7.1.2 build 39989RC. It is not one that Tormach had on its website.
I know there is a later version available from Tormach as well as one that Live recommended today in the Pocket Problems thread. But I am not inclinded to run either of those as yet.
    Any comments?.
Live, if you are reading, perhaps you could comment?
    Thanks

    Hi Bevin
    I am running V7 build 1.2 rev 40148.
I could not open your file. I got access violations.
I have never had any issues with them before.
    Not sure what that means.

When it comes up and asks if you want to scale the part say "NO". Saying yes will get access violations.

I get these if I import a metric part into imperial settings in SC.

Not sure if that is part of my problems as well. But it did open fine for me. Access errors opening if I say yes.

Thanks Magnum, I did not know that was one of the causes of Access Violations, that have happened to me in the past. With SC, one gets used to buggy behaviour, and don't bother experimenting unless you have to.

In future I will let people know that my attachments are metric and not to say yes to scaling.

    Hello Bevin.
I've looked at your project. It's a lame, but you should also enable the "Check workpiece" option at the <Parameters->Trimming> tab if you want the transitions were made around a workpiece.

    Hi Live,
    Thanks for your response.
I tried selecting "Check Workpiece" with and without "Check Part" selected but the toolpath still does not go "Around workpiece". Instead it retracts to safe plane for transtion to the second cut, just as if I had selected "Via safe plane". While this path avoids the part, I still have to modify the Gcode to avoid the consequent G1 feed down 30mm to begin the second pass.

Also with "Check Workpiece" selected, the first cutting path has a jump that has no relation to the 2D contour the tool should be following. See the second attached screenshot.

Live, is this a bug, or normal for SC?

For others reading this thread, the first attached screen shot shows the two paths X that transition through the part as described in my first posting.

    Hello Bevin.
    My bad.
The <Check Workpiece> option affects not only the transitions - the toolpath is trimmed by the workpiece too. So disable the "Check workpiece" option.
Instead add the part to the fixtures folder with the <Add Faces> button. It should help (It seems the <Check part> doesn't affect the 2d contouring operation).

I did as you suggested and yes it does stop the tool from cutting through the part on the transition, but this new transition toolpath follows the curve of the "fixture" and therefore performs a final cut. The tool then continues on the next cutting pass even though there is no more material to remove.

I tried changing other settings in Parameters but the transition toolpath still follows the fixture curve.

I think this must be a bug and I will send this to SC.

I received a reply from SC tech help who said it is a bug and that "it will be fixed eventually". So it seems that the bug exists in current releases as well.

They did provide a feasible workaround; change the leadin/leadout to ensure a straight line transition between leadout and leadin will avoid the part (plus remaining stock).

The alternative workaround is to select "via safe level" and change the G1 <safe level to cutting level> to G0.

    Anyway there are workarounds.
