Hole Machining 5D

My Threadmilling op is rotating the part 180 deg and plunging through the bottom. The forum won't allow me to upload the .stl but if anybody has any ideas I will send it to you directly.

Just rename the .stl file to .jpg or something and let people know they have to rename it when they download it....

I just tried uploading the model and project files renamed as .jpg but the forum still will not accept them. It says invalid picture format. I tried several different types listed as acceptable but none worked.

I solved my problem! I wish I knew why it happened in the first place. It all happened in the job assignment tab. After choosing the face where the threads are to go and choosing center there appears a green arrow in the part display. If you click on this it will reverse direction. This had the effect of putting the threads above the part in thin air. double clicking on the job in job assignment allowed me to change the top to 0 and the bottom to -.6 (thread start and end). I also had to turn off Drill tip compensation. I will watch more closely for direction arrows next time.

Glad you figured it out!.. Yea, some forum boards allow uploading non-jpg files but with security issues lately more are doing a file type check to avoid trojans/viruses... Can't blame them.

I haven't seen the green arrow yet, but will keep an eye out for it..

I can't figure out why you would ever want to "reverse" the thread location. Thats why it took me so long to figure out.
If you look in the center if the boss in this screne shot you can see the arrow pointing up (seems like the wrong way to me but it works).

davidperry3,

Did it post the NC code without any problem?

If so what post did you use?

Nothing happens in SprutCam without any problems. I used the Tormach post and cut a test part the thread milling op went fine.

davidperry3,

Thanks. I was trying to do a pipe thread with a tapered helic using the 5D hole machining operation. Reqardless of which of the Tormach posts I tried I was told that the Tormach post did not support that operation. Can't understand why because it is just a spiral with a "Z" distance.

Might be a silly question, but have you tried the latest post Tormach just released recently?
