    Sprutcam and Alibre

Evaluating cam programs. I have Alibre at the moment and am considering Sprutcam. Here's the question.....if I design a part in Alibre and do all the Cam work in sprutcam, and then make a change in Alibre......do I need to start over with sprutcam, or does it somehow integrate together to make it a bit more seamless. I like the idea of integrated Cad/Cam, but it gets very pricey, and I want to avoid Bobcad. Alibre cam doesn't support lathe, which I would like.

    Thanks
    Steve

You have to start over since SC actually just imports the part in as a IGES file. I have SC and Alibre also.

You can export the ops from the original CAM file and then import them into the new CAM file with your revised design or you can delete the old part and import the revised part. Depending on the complexity of your part and CAM ops you might still have a lot of work to do.

The largest amount of extra work would probably be re-selecting features to machine but you will already have the right ops, tools for each op, and machining parameters set up. I find that re-selecting features takes a lot less time than specifying ops, cutters, and paramters.
