Engraving with version 7

First attempt at engraving with version 7. I imported a DXF and then created text within SC ver 7, so far so good. The problem is how does one assign the text to the engraving job? After a wasting most of the morning I just don't get it. Any suggestions or examples would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Robert

Robert,
I think you're running into the same confusing semantics that I also had to sort out involving Text, Engraving, 2D contouring, 3D contouring (and now 5D contouring). For what you are doing, i.e. simple stroke fonts, you should be selecting a 2D contouring operation to do the "engraving." The 2D countouring operation uses curves to describe the toolpath and you have created these curves in your model. Just delete your engraving op and replace with a 2-D contouring op and place the curves you want to engrave into the job assignment and it will be obvious from there. - Terry

Hi Terry,

Thanks for the suggestion on just using the 2D contour. It worked fine and I just delivered the item to the happy customer. I had used the 2d operation a lot for making strange shaped objects just did not think about using it for the engraving process.

So why the engraving operation? Is it for making things like raised letters?

I agree that understanding the terms is one of the harder parts of using SC. I also found that if you just don't get something in the manual it helps to read the words in the sentence backwards, or change the order of words. My Russian friends at work tell me that the language does not always order things like noun followed by verb, etc as English tends to.

Thanks again,
Robert
