SV7 A little advice would be welcome

Hello all,
I'm potentially a Sprutcam purchaser from New Zealand.
I have an evaluation copy of V7 and have been giving myself a thorough workout, trying to come to grips with it all. I'm having a fair bit of success, but in the process have thrown up a few questions I would be grateful for a little advice.

1) Try as I might, the 2.5d methodology is eluding me, Are there any clear examples around of pocketing, 2.5d pocketing and 2.5d chamfering. I think I understand the hole and cover theory, just actually doing doesn't seem to happen.

2) I am using a Fagor controller, and the available fagor post has some faults.
The problem I have is that the passing of parameters to canned drilling and tapping cycles is incorrect.
whereabouts in the post should I go looking to try to correct this.

3)I notice that when reordering machining operations by drag and drop, if the calculation hasn't been reset, causes the program to lock up.
Is this a known fault?

4)Using a 3axis machine but wishing to machine both sides of the part,
do I have to do each side as a separate project, or should I pretend that it is a 4 axis setup.
If so how to insert an M01 conditional stop between face changes.

5)The bulk of the work that I do is essentially 2.5D, but all of it is modelled in Autodesk Inventor. Would that suggest sticking largely to the 3d machining operations as they seem to use the 3d model information more effectively.

Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions anyone might provide.

Harry Harrison

Have you checkout the tutorials on the tormach.com webpage? The guys at Tormach have put together a fairly nice collection over the past couple of months. I have not had time to check them all out but the couple I did were helpful. A fellow zone member also has a low cost forum for SC support.

You are lucky to be starting your adventure today rather than a year or so back when they were no tutorials and a manual leaving much to the imagination. Things have greatly improved...

If you think you found a bug document it and send it to SprutCam. They are very good about fixing the issue if there is one.

Hope this is of some help.
Robert

Hi Harry,
I agree with Robert that you should explore the Tormach videos as they are a great help for understanding the UI logic.
Since you received only one reply, I offer my advice, based upon my limited experience:

1. Re 2.5D, I think the secret is the settings to the assigned curve and you get to them under the Machining tab and right clicking the name of the curve on the lefthand window. Oneof the Tormach videos shows you how, I think the one on chamfering.
2. Making changes to the Fagor controller; perhaps you should go to the Fagor website.
3. Sounds like a SproutCAM bug. As Robert said, document and report it to SC.
4. Perhaps you could use the interrupt command and relocate the part to do the reverse side, but probably it would be easier to make a separate program.
5. Regarding 2.5D versus 3D machining operations, use whatever operation is the best to complete the job with the simplest toolpath.

What machine are you using?
