    Default Router Switch

Hello fellow CNC enthusiast. I was hoping you could help me with something. I have an XZero Raptor that uses the normal Hitachi router that I currently have plugged into an extension cord. I would really like to set it up so that it is plugged into a switch that is controlled by Mach 3 so that when it is done cutting, the switch kills power to the router. Is anyone familiar with this type of setup and if so where I can get the switch to be able to do this. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Stacey

would "power over ethernet " solve your problem ?

when only 4 of the 8 wires in an ethernet cable is used for data

    using ready made adaptors
the two unused pairs can be used to power the router from a remote power supply

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_over_Ethernet

    for example

    PS

what controller do you have ?

if you don't already have a mains socket under control of mach3
you could possibly use some thing like this C55 board from cnc4pc
( provided you have 2 spare outputs on your breakout board )

You need a relay to control the router, and have Mach3 activate the relay.

You could use a Relay to turn the router on/off with Mach3

an example linked to in post 2

    Router Switch-c55-jpg

    Router Switch-c55_user_manual_ver-1-pdf

    an alternative could be

    Router Switch-c15r1a-jpg

    Router Switch-c15r2_1_user_manual-pdf

details of your control will be required to give you a wiring diagram to connect a relay to your controller

I have the Leadshine MX3660 for my control board/Stepper drive. Does this help?

Leadshine MX3660 thats the information we need

looking at the manual Router Switch-mx3660hm_v1-0-pdf

    Router Switch-mx3660-diagram-pdf

I will look to see what relays can be used

    John

    PS
    update

the MX3660 manual does not give any detail of the outputs but the MX4660 does

    Router Switch-mx4660-relay-output-jpg

with the 1K resistor connecting the NPN transistors collector to the output terminal
this limits the current the output can sink

since it can not source current from a +5v supply it can not easily interface
with the boards in post 7

    PPS

adapting the 2N7000 relay driver in the thread here -

    http://www.cnczone.com/forums/genera...477-cnc-2.html

    Router Switch-relaycircuit-jpg

this is what I have in mind

    Router Switch-mx3660-relay-circuit-jpg

when the MX3660 output is open

the first FET is switched on by the 10K resistor connecting the gate to +12V

the first FET grounds the 2nd FETS gate and switches it off (and the relay)

(the 5V Zenner ensures the MX3660 input is not taken above +5V)

when the MX3660 output grounds the first FET's gate

the first FET will be switched off and as a result the 2nd FET and relay is switched on

I guess we need a MX3660 / MX4660 user that has connected a relay to there controller
    to post a proven solution

    update

not knowing if you or some one you know can build this kit

    https://www.electronickits.com/dual-...lay-board-kit/

    Router Switch-ck1619new-jpg

    Router Switch-ck1619-circuit-jpg
I think you will need to increase the values of the resistors R1 & R4
from 10K to 22K to ensure the MX3660 output can pull the LO inputs down to a valid LO level

    Router Switch-ck1619new-pdf

this is the closest I have found that will work with the MX3660 / MX4660

Let just assume for a moment that I have not got a clue about what you guys are talking about. I wired my Controller board up for my machine, but it had directions and I only had to connect wires where ever the instructions told me to. Is there a "plug and play" answer for my question. I am seeing pictures of other controller boards and hearing talk of changing resistors, hi/lo signals, etc..., and I haven't the foggiest idea what I need. I am really great with the CNC machine but a COMPLETE novice when it comes to stuff like this.

    OK ,

the K156 DIY assembly kit is no longer an option
so a wiring diagram is no use

may be a Solid State Relay could be the answer

I have modifed this diagram in the manual

    Router Switch-mx3660_typicalconnections_l-jpg

this shows the connections between the MX3660 and a solid state relay

its midnight now so I will add more in another post tomorrow

OK, I am part of the way there as far as understanding. From what I am looking at, am I going to need another power supply??? I think I understand the DC relay, but where, how, and with what does the router plug into???

    Hi

    sorry for the delay
last night I did not expect to be at Norton Priory most of the day !
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norton_Priory

later than I expected this is the second part of the diagram in yesterdays post

    Router Switch-mx3660_ssr-connections-mains-supply-jpg

yes , you will need some thing like a 24V @100mA (2.4 W ) power supply for the MX3660 control of the relays
if 24V @1/2A or 24V @1A is less expensive than a 24V @100mA power its OK to use the larger power supply

SSR-25DA should be easy to find
its a 25A device that can pass a current of 25A when it fitted to a heatsink

Is there a chance that my current PS for my MX3660 would have a 24VDC output that could be used for the SSR?

I don't see any reason why not

I had expected the MX3660 power supply your using to of been higher to enable you to obtain higher motor speeds

using your existing 24V supply will defeat the MX3660 opt-isolators on the outputs
but this will not matter since the SSR-25DA has its own opto-isolator input for a DC control voltage between 4 & 32V

OK, so I need the power supply, 2 of the SSR's (the same type for both I am assuming will be OK), and the wiring between the components, is that correct. Will I also need to setup Mach3 in any way?

Sorry, I didn't read the post prior to your last one. I am using a router that plugs into the wall so I am not using the power supply in any capacity in conjunction with my router. Provided I am able to find an output of 24vdc on the power supply, your saying that my existing PS should work?
