Disclaimer: I have been researching and trying to find the answer to my question... no luck.

I am in the process of building a 3 axis mill, here is my setup:

* Warp 9 Tech ESS with C25 Terminal Board
*Hitachi WJ 200-022SF
*Mach 3
*Chinese 2.2KW Spindle

My questions are:

1) In order to have fwd/rev & rpm control of the spindle from mach 3... Is using modbus an absolute have to? (If not a requirement, I would rather not go this route)

2) Voltage input for intelligent terminals: In the manual it shows it has an internal 24VDC power supply, which is where my confusion comes in. Can I send a 5vdc signal (outputs from terminal board) to these inputs? In my mind I would think you could run spindle fwd/rev by sending signals to these inputs, but I realize if the board got feedback from the 24vdc it would be smoke. Is this correct thinking?

I hope this is clear. If anyone could enlighten me, I would greatly greatly appreciate it.
